There is only one thing better than catching a fish on a fly that you created and that is netting the fish your daughter just caught on a fly that she created. You sat shoulder to shoulder with her as she learned the ancient art of fly tying and now here you are on the banks of a river with your arm around her shoulders and her hands around a huge rainbow trout. You take pictures, and then she lowers the fish into the water and after a short rest it darts back into the river. You look at each other for a brief moment, smile and then you both start screaming and doing a victory dance right there in the water.
Something happened right then in case you missed it. Connection. Your heart and hers forever tied together by this one fish because you made the conscience decision to spend time with her as you tied flies and talked and learned about each other.
Be careful. Fly tying is powerful stuff.
